My name is Miguel Angel Ochoa Montes, I'm currently studying my Master degree in Computer Sciences and Industrial Math in Centro de Investigaciones en Matematicas(CIMAT) in Guanajuato City in Mexico. My stay in Barcelona was with Aerospacial Enginering Group with Dr. Jordi Pons-Prats in Centro Internacional de Métodos Numericos en Ingenieria(CIMNE) in Castelldefels, Barcelona. My stay was supported by TCAINMAND program.

 

My research is oriented to Topology Optimization. Topology Optimization allow us to design optimal structures considering boundaries conditions related to displacements and forces over the geometry. This kind of optimization represent an improve in mechanic design of structures saving time and money. Topology Optimization problems are associated to high dimension due every element in geometry mesh is one dimension. In past work done related to Topology Optimization a “control point” technique has been used for change the individual representation, this reduce the problem dimension until 99% and make feasible to use Evolutionary Algorithms for solve this kind of optimization problems, with the advantage of global search. Structural design is commonly related to Multi Objective optimization due optimal structures must consider some characteristics to fullfill the established requirements(Volume, Security Factor, Compliance etc). The main objective of my stay was the study and implementation of Multi Objective Evolutionary Algorithms for Topology Optimization problems specifically for minimal compliance and volume.

 

My stay was in Barcelona city. Barcelona is an incredible city to live, so multicultural and full of tourist attractions. The beach is nice in summer and there are a lot of great panoramas over the mountains within the city. The poeple there is nice and warm. I enjoyed so much my stay there.
